Released the Monday before Mothering Sunday, G4's debut has became an overnight number one hit and the fastest-selling album of the year.
Having established a loyal fan base on The X Factor, the university graduate buskers charmed audiences with curious arrangements of Hit Me Baby One More Time and Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. These boys were at college only a term ago, and surely one of them had a pal to advise against covering REM's Everybody Hurts? Obviously not. G4 may be this month's flavour, but not so long ago E17 were filling stadiums and topped the singles chart regularly with Stay Another Day, It's Alright and House Of Love. No one cares any more. Brian Harvey may have turned up as a celebrity in the Aussie jungle, but time has not been kind to the Eastenders with gangsta attitude. Buskers can become superstars. Equally, top pop boy bands can become buskers overnight.
