Traffic police and special constables diverted traffic into lanes on Hull Road last night before stopping drivers in a bid to attain details about the events which led to the death of 20-year-old Bethany Gale, a University of York biochemistry student.
Bethany died when she was in collision with a red Citroen Saxo as she, and her boyfriend, Tom Asquith, were walking across the eastbound carriageway of Hull Road, at about 8.20pm on February 27.
Following the accident, near the junction with Pinelands Way, police closed the closed for some hours as crime scene investigators examined the wreckage of the car, which had crashed into a traffic light on the central reservation.
The driver was treated at Leeds General Infirmary for serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
PC Shaun Grey, who conducted yesterday's road check operation, said officers were stopping drivers as part of a new appeal for witnesses.
