HAVE the supporters of the Elvington Park proposed aircraft hangars heard about sustainable development or the Government's targets for the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions?
It really is a complete nonsense that some leaders in the business world still cannot grasp the need to address the problems of environmental impact especially in relation to the growth of road and air transport.
The emissions from executive jets are amongst the worst in terms of CO2 per passenger mile.
Planning officers and councillors should bear in mind that giving planning permission will give a blessing on further environmentally damaging development which will be a contradiction of sustainable planning objectives.
Supporting proposals for wind turbines and grass burning power stations will only be futile and conscience-easing gestures.
