PAUL Daniels must have been passing by Upper Poppleton last week.
Monday morning's walk to school brought both surprise and congratulations from parents and pupils of Poppleton Ousebank Primary School on Main Street. Finally, double yellow lines around the entrance to our primary school.
Not a car in site for at least 50m in all directions. Tuesday morning, the lines were still there at 8.30am. However, at 10am, a man with a blow torch is burning the lines off and at 3pm, the lines have all gone ("Double Take", March 12).
Should we have gone to Specsavers or did the council really instruct the lines to be painted and then removed in a 24 hour period?
Maybe the restaurants in Fossgate should take heart at how quickly a decision can be made to remove double yellow lines!
Bring your business here to our village, it is amazing how quickly decisions can really be reversed, all at council tax payers' expense.
