Selby gave an error-strewn display in losing 11-3 in their Yorkshire One match at Keighley.
Selby had to make changes to their team and started without a recognised scrum-half, flanker Richard Nicholson taking on the job.
After 27 minutes Selby were caught offside in front of the posts and Keighley stand-off John Harrison kicked the penalty.
Six minutes later Selby equalised with a Toby Pemberton penalty in front of the posts for a similar offence by Keighley's backs.
The crucial score came in the 37th minute. A Selby kick out of defence failed to find touch. Keighley's forwards took play to Selby's five metre area and flanker Morgan Bailey went through for an unconverted try.
Poor handling and kicking to touch blighted Selby's efforts and in the 51st minute Jason Cicero had to leave the field with a recurrence of his shoulder problem. He was replaced by Kevin Lowery.
Keighley flanker Lee Gordon was yellow carded in the 61st minute for offences in the ruck, but three minutes later Harrison kicked a penalty for offside.
Keighley's other flanker Bailey was yellow carded for ruck offences in the 70th minute but Selby failed to take advantage.
The defeat leaves Selby eighth in the table.
Next weekend Selby play a home friendly against Market Rasen. Selby's next League game is on April 2 at home to Huddersfield YMCA.
