YORK Acorn ARLC have become entangled in a controversy over alleged incorrect names on a team sheet.
The club's 'A' team allegedly did not field the side named on their team sheet for the Pennine League Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy quarter-final victory over Boothtown Terriers.
The Blue and Golds reserves won the match 25-22 to set up a semi-final against Queensbury 'A', but that last-four tie was postponed at the weekend pending a meeting of Pennine League chiefs to be held in the next seven days.
Acorn first-teamer Kyle Palmer is at the centre of the rumpus. He was badly injured in the game and was taken to hospital by Boothtown vice-president Graham Walker, who has since said that Palmer's name was not on the team sheet. Walker also alleged Dean Crump played in the game but was not named on the sheet, with the Halifax club taking their complaints to league bosses.
Acorn were unable to comment.
Acorn 'A' are scheduled to entertain promotion rivals Wyke in a crucial division four match on Saturday.
New Earswick will hope there is no major comedown following their National Cup heroics as they return to Pennine League division two action. The promotion-seeking All Blacks visit bottom-club Stainland Stags with coach Simon Baynes no doubt warning against complacency.
York Groves are not in division five action but will be hoping promotion-seeking local rivals Selby Warriors can do them a favour by beating strugglers Cowling Harlequins.
