ALAN Robinson claims that if UKIP were honest they would call themselves the English Independence Party (Letters, March 2). This is ludicrous.

In this sense UKIP are just like the Conservatives. They get most of their support in England and tend to be regarded in other parts of the UK and many parts of the media as an "English" party. However they are so completely beholden to the idea of the British Union they won't actually go out and appeal to the English as the English Independence Party for fear of upsetting the apple cart.

UKIP's answer to the West Lothian question, that sees Scottish MPs able to vote on English laws but English and Scottish MPs not able to vote on Scottish laws, is to hold referendums to abolish the Scottish parliament and Welsh assembly.

If they vote to keep them the English will have to put up with the inequality. England can lose out as long as the union is kept together.
