REGARDING the traffic problems on the A19 south of York, what a shame you couldn't be bothered to talk with City of York Council officers, Coun Ann Reid, the executive member for planning and transport, or myself as ward councillor for Wheldrake, in whose patch both these junctions are to be found ("Bid to tame A19 site", March 5).
If you had, you would have a clearer idea of what is being proposed at Crockey Hill, the timescales involved for addressing problems at both junctions, the various methods of funding we are looking at to progress improvements and the fact that both these junctions have been discussed and reported back on to residents at the ward committee meeting ten days ago.
You would also be able to tell readers that Ann Reid, council officers and I have been discussing different solutions to those brought to the meeting with John Grogan.
The proposals regarding Crockey Hill junction, in the view of residents of Crockey Hill and Wheldrake present at the meeting, would not address the causes of the many accidents at this junction.
John Grogan is wrong to suggest a traffic island and refuge is the solution that commanded significant support.
What we are looking at is either traffic lights or possibly a roundabout, because a traffic island and refuge would only benefit car users and not public transport.
Coun Christian Vassie,
Blake Court,
Wheldrake, York.
