THEY must be mad to propose running the taxi service for Royal Ascot along Terry Avenue (March 2).
Having been to the Micklegate ward meeting last week where the latest plans were outlined by City of York Council's Bill Woolley, it seems to me that the corner from Nunnery Lane on to Bishopgate/Bishopthorpe Road is going to come to a standstill.
The proposal is to feed all local traffic from the city down Bishopthorpe Road and close Tadcaster Road to all but race traffic. Add to this all private and First York bus traffic going to the racecourse from the station which will also be travelling down Nunnery Lane on a clockwise route on to Bishopthorpe Road at this corner.
Now we also have taxi traffic travelling down Nunnery Lane and crossing Bishopthorpe Road to go down Clemethorpe and on to Terry Avenue. What a mess.
Like most of York, I hope I will be out of town that week.
