THE happiest day of their lives was pictured in the Evening Press half a century ago.
York couple Kathleen and Roy Griffin were caught on camera for the Evening Press on their wedding day on March 5, 1955.
Today the pair are celebrating their golden wedding by getting their picture in the paper for a second time.
The pair met by chance at a dance in York's De Grey rooms on the eve of the Queen's coronation in June 1953.
They married at New Earswick Methodist Church two years later, and have spent their lives in and around York - never missing a copy of the Evening Press.
"It's my favourite paper," said Kathleen.
Roy spent his career working with the British Rail signal and telecommunications stores at Toft Green, York.
The pair, who now live at Huntington, have a son, David, 43, who is a chartered accountant living in York.
Kathleen said she could not believe they were now celebrating 50 years together.
"I just don't know where the time has gone - it's amazing," she said.
Roy said: "We've enjoyed it - we work as a team. The art of marriage is give and take."
