BOOKWORMS at a York school celebrated World Book Day in style.
Youngsters at the Minster School had a day of events arranged and all pupils were given the opportunity to take part in something out of the ordinary.
Bookworms from Years Two to Eight at the school were given the opportunity to make their own book.
Helped by tutors from the Centre for Continuing Education at the University of York, each class wrote stories based on a different theme.
The stories and poems are to be collated into a book, which will be added to the school library.
Chantal Fell, head of French, who organised the day, said: "The children were very excited at the thought of creating their own book. It is also exciting for us that we will have our own anthology for the school's library. We were very grateful to all the centre's tutors, who each volunteered hours of their time."
Children in the pre-prep and nursery departments also had celebrations of their own as they watched the official opening of the junior library by the Dean of York Minster, the Very Rev Keith Jones.
The Dean declared the new library open and cut a celebration cake shaped as a giant book with help from the youngest and oldest pre-prep pupils - three-year-old Hebe Turville and seven-year-old Daniel Hopwood-Robinson.
