Alex Lloyd gets over the closure of Ikon and tries something new instead.
IKON is dead. It's all very sad, but as my mum always says, there's no use crying over a closed superclub.
Instead of wallowing in your pity and staying in this weekend, why not try something new and give all your hard-earned cash to one of the following events which are run by York's small scale promoters?
BOUNCY and uplifting hard house is the way DJ Martin C describes the musical style of Savaged, which has been running parties around York and trips to club nights elsewhere for the last three years.
After a year-long hiatus, Savaged re-launched its monthly event at The Junction last month, drawing a huge crowd.
"There is nothing else going on in the city for fans of hard house, and we have built up a good following," says Martin, who also DJs regularly at Housewives Choice and Glasshouse, in Leeds.
Joining him on the decks will be Housewives Choice colleagues The Nocturnal DJs, as well as Tony H and a back-to-back set from Mad Will and Kid Rich.
Savaged at The Junction, Leeman Road, tonight, 7pm-midnight, £4 or £3 for members (membership available on the night). No caps or sportswear, but trainers are allowed. Proof of age may be required.

EAT The Meek is serving up a mix of hip hop and dancehall this evening.
Residents Pix and James Gillmore will be joined on the decks at the Little John Cellar Bar by newcomer DJ Bean for the event's March instalment.
Organisers are looking for MCs, breakdancers, body poppers and live acts to get involved in future events. Anyone who is interested should email: djpix99@hotmail.com.
Eat The Meek, The Little John, Castlegate, March 4, 8pm-11pm, £2. www.eatthemeek.co.uk.
AND if none of that takes your fancy, the funk-fest that is Mr Green's Onion Club will have a set from Stoned Soul Picnic as well as the usual top-notch DJ-ing from Mr Green and Duke Dylanja.
Mr Green's Onion Club at the City Screen Basement Bar, off Coney Street, March 4, 8pm-11pm, £5. www.mrgreensonionclub.co.uk.
