YORK City Knights' Powergen Challenge Cup tie away to amateur club Elland may be switched to Huntington Stadium.

Halifax-based Elland had inquired about playing the third round tie - on the weekend of March 12/13 - at The Shay, home of National League neighbours Halifax. However, that ground is also used by football club Halifax Town and on the Monday they host City in a Conference encounter live on Sky.

Elland are therefore unlikely to be allowed use of that pitch on the Sunday.

Furthermore, they are competing with two other Cup ties for a slot at The Shay that weekend.

Halifax themselves are likely to switch their "away" tie against amateurs Castleford Lock Lane to their own ground on the Friday night - Lock Lane had hoped to play at The Jungle but hosts Castleford Tigers also have a home tie - while another local Halifax amateur club, Siddal, have also asked to use the ground to play Hull KR.

Elland's community centre home does not have good enough facilities to stage the Knights tie, with all amateurs teams having to play "home" ties at National League-standard grounds.

Recent history also suggests the Knights might end up playing at home. Elland reached this stage last year and were drawn at home to Leigh but switched the tie to the Centurions' Hilton Park for a bigger pay-day.

Waterlogged home pitches have forced the postponement of New Earswick All Blacks' GMB Union National Cup tie against Halton Simms Cross and Heworth 'A' team's clash against Stanley Rangers 'A' tomorrow.
