IN response to Mr Lawton's letter 'Language barrier' (February 23), the use of the phrase "extreme weather conditions" to describe the weather in Yorkshire, and York in particular on last Monday morning, came from experts at the Met Office, it did not originate from me.

If Mr Lawton still has an issue with the use of the word "extreme" he should take it up with them.

Bill Woolley,

Acting director of Environment and Sustainability,

City of York Council,

St Leonard's Place, York.
