DADE Krama celebrate the ancestral music and dance of Tanzania, Ghana and the Gambia on Sunday evening at the National Centre for Early Music, York.
Originally formed in 1984, this pioneering troupe built a fan base in York through sold-out performances at the now defunct Arts Centre, and this weekend's concert is a long-awaited return to the city on a ten-date tour to promote the re-release of the Ancestral Music Of Africa album.
Dade Krama perform traditional dance pieces and original compositions on instruments ranging from North African regal trumpets to the West African Fontonfron drums of the Ashanti. The hypnotic melodies of the Swahili kalimba thumb piano, the soulful grooves of the gonge one-string fiddle, the Dagarti balo xylophone and Ghanaian atenteben carnival flute all play their part too.
Sunday's Ancestral Dance concert starts at 7pm; tickets cost £10, £8 or £3.50 on 01904 658338.
