YORK'S hopes of reaching the Yetton Trophy indoor bowls semi-final disappeared in cruel fashion when they lost to holders Boston on an extra end.
The match finished 73-73 and the pressure was incredible as three rinks had finished and the on-going rink had two ends to play with York holding a two-shot lead.
But the on-going York home rink, led by Linda Harrison, lost their way and were beaten 23-9, enabling Boston to square the match.
Harrison's team had been chosen to play the extra end before the start and lead Dot Kennelly put her two woods next to the jack only for Boston to put their last wood in as winner. York could not get near until Harrison's last wood looked to be on course to move the jack only to miss by a whisker and York went out.
Earlier, Helen Walker's team won 21-10 while Melanie Brooke's side ensured that they got the away aggregate finishing with a four followed by a three to win 22-15.
Carol Instone's side hit back in their game with a four on the 19th end to trail by two shots at 21-19 only to drop four on the remaining ends.
York's only hopes of national glory now rest with their Vivienne Trophy semi-final at Acle, near Norwich, on March 10. A coach to the match, cost £5 for supporters, is being run. Contact Ian Clough on 01904 704180 to book.
York moved into the finals of the Top Ten Tournament after beating Metrodome 90-58, picking up all 15 points.
Iain Boyle won a tough home singles game 21-17 after being 12-4 down. The other home rink, led by Gordon Smith, won the fours 24-15.
At Barnsley, Kevin Davey's triples scored a five on the last end to win 20-13.
In the pairs, Paul Mooring and Phil Parsons were trailing 9-8 after eight ends but then lost only three more ends as they won easily 25-13.
