CITY of York Hockey Club's first and second teams took a hammering from their Sheffield University Bankers rivals.
While the first team were beaten 4-0 in South Yorkshire in the Northern Hockey League top tier, the second team, who fielded a bit of a scratch side, were thrashed 8-0 at home in their division two East encounter.
Bankers completed the double at first team level after moving into a 3-0 interval lead - two of the goals courtesy of York errors.
Injury-hit York dominated the second period, forcing plenty of short corners and getting in lots of strikes at goal but the Sheffield 'keeper made some good saves.
Ron Anderson had a solid game on his York first team debut and Peter Richardson played well in midfield but this could not prevent Ban-kers from adding a fourth goal in the second half.
City of York II, pieced together from players from several lower teams, gave plenty of effort and were holding their visitors 0-0 at half-time.
But it all went wrong after the break as Bankers scored from four short corners and York were unable to stem the tide of goals.
There was no joy either for City of York III who went down 4-1 at Yorkshire League division one leaders Leeds II.
Leeds went one up after 30 seconds and added a second inside five minutes.
Tom Sorby, making his third team debut, pulled a goal back after a fine move.
York missed a couple of chances before Leeds put away a short corner to make it 3-1 and despite sterling performances by Simon Casterton in defence and midfielder James Still, stepping up from the seventh team, Leeds a added a fourth.
City of York IV did provide the club with a victory as they beat Scarbo-rough 3-1 in division four.
Jamie Tough put York ahead with a well-judged flick at a short corner. Mark Dransfield made it 2-0 before Boro pulled one back.
Scarborough had the edge at this stage put Paul Snape did well in the York goal and Andy Wilson sealed victory when he deflected in the third goal.
City of York V had the unusual experience of playing on grass as they drew 1-1 at Ben Rhydding in division five.
The Ilkley-based side had gained 21 points from a possible 24 on the surface but York more than matched them and a David de Silva goal put them ahead.
Tony Neave, Nigel Herd and Danny Turton all played well for York but could not prevent the equaliser ten minutes from the end.
Goals by Les Reed (2), Greg Sykes (2) and Keith Wilson gave City of York VI an effortless 5-0 victory at Boston Spa IV in division seven.
Fighting spirit was to the fore as City of York VII fought back from 2-0 down to beat Normanby Park III 5-4 in division eight.
Stuart Burke (2), James Wallis and skipper Richard Tanner-Smith put York 4-2 up by the interval.
Burke completed his hat-trick shortly after the break but York had to hold off a Park fightback before bagging maximum points.
