Despite dominating most of this Yorkshire League One fixture, Selby somehow contrived to lose 17-15 to Wheatley Hills and find themselves dangerously close to the relegation places.
Leading 10-3 at half-time, and looking comfortable, Selby conceded a converted try in the 66th minute but re-took the lead in the 73rd minute with another unconverted try.
However, with only their second meaningful attack of the second half, Wheatley Hills won the game with a converted try in the 78th minute leaving the Selby supporters devastated.
Selby made an impressive start, winger Rich Topping going over for in the corner. But a penalty reduced the arrears.
After missing two penalties, Toby Pemberton kicked to the corner for hooker Shane Sellers to cross and seal that 10-3 half-time lead.
Selby camped in the Wheatley Hills 22 for the first 25 minutes of the second half. But they could not make that pressure tell and with Wheatley Hills' first meaningful attack of the half second row forward Andrew Penno burst through. Ashley Hanson made no mistake with the conversion to level.
Soon after, a successful catch and maul to the Wheatley line saw Jamie Pocklington touch down to for a 15-10 lead.
But two minutes from time the hosts' Craig Howarth to scored, Hanson jubilantly kicking the conversion.
Selby cannot afford any more slip-ups and need to beat their old adversaries Pontefract next week.
