BOOTHAM 'A' made the most of home advantage to earn a 5-2 win over Fulford and move clear at the top of the York Conservative Clubs' Faber Shield Billiards League.
George Tingle and Colin Robinson (24 break) put Bootham 2-0 up only for Alan Reed (28 break) and Wayne Puleston (35 break) - who hung on to defeat Ken Taylor (37,35,29 breaks) to level the match.
Nick Parker and Barry Rankin who inflicted the first defeat of the season on Richard Stroughair - decided the result in Bootham's favour. Bootham 'A' are three points ahead with two games to play.
Bootham 'B' whitewashed Acomb 7-0 to consolidate their position in third place.
Ian Robinson (who won by just two points, Alf Appleby, Chris Granger, Tony Lambert, Tim Fillingham and a walkover by George Long secured the win.
Bootham 'B' trail second-placed Fulford by seven points and Acomb are isolated at the bottom of the league.
Despite his defeat, Richard Stroughair (F) continues to lead in the Cameo Engraving Player Of The Year with nine wins in ten games.
Bootham's Barry Rankin is in second spot with seven wins from ten games.
Colin Robinson (B) is the clear leader with a 52 break in the Cameo Engraving Highest Break competition.
