Marcia stayed on course for a clean sweep of trophies in the John Smith's York Sunday Morning Football League when they progressed to the semi-final stage of the John Smith's Bitter Cup with a hard-earned victory at Derwent United.
Despite having Kieron Darlow dismissed as early as the 20th minute, they held the home side to 1-1, O'Brien with their goal, to take the game to extra time and then, with penalties looming, Carl Young was on hand to net the winner with only two minutes remaining.
Volunteer Arms, chasing a double of their own, saw home side Ainsty Panthers take the lead courtesy of a Tosh Reid free-kick and, when Mark Willoughby put them two up inside 20 minutes, Volunteers' aspirations looked a mere dream.
Slack defending, however, conspired to let the visitors back in the game when Bonarius swooped from a corner and on the stroke of half-time Jimmy Clamp put them level.
In a cracking tie, Volunteers came out all guns blazing at the start of the second period and Clamp struck his second to put them in front for the first time. It was a lead they would not relinquish despite the efforts of the Ainsty attack which was thwarted by some fine keeping from Sykes.
Holders Severus SC spurned a hatful of chances in their tie with fourth division Bay Horse (Tadcaster) before Jones netted the single goal that saw them keep one hand on the trophy.
Shipton found themselves behind to a well-taken Eddie Phillips goal for Edward VII in the all division two tie.
Phillips popped up at the start of the second period to extend the lead before a bad error from Clark, who allowed a tame shot from Chapman through his grasp, let Shipton back in, and then a hotly disputed penalty, which saw Clark also sent off, was converted by Blake to send the tie into extra time.
Even with ten men Edward VII looked the more likely team and went in front again through Danny Franklin only to see their hopes flattened by a last-minute equaliser from Blake. Penalties followed and Edward's failed with three out of four to see Shipton through 3-1.
