YORK'S Lord Mayor dropped into the city's Central Library to check out improvements made to give the building a new look and enhance the services for users.
Councillor Janet Looker was able to see how new display stands and shelves have been installed on the ground floor, more items have been added to the audio-visual section, and a new informal study area has been created.
There is also a comfortable seating area in the lending library, and a hot drinks machine for visitors.
On the first floor, a new, more accessible, counter has been fitted in the reference library and an improved air-flow system will help to stabilise the temperature.
A few of the facilities have moved, but floor plans are available to help visitors find their way around. Members of staff are also happy to provide directions.
If you are looking for a particular item, please check the online catalogue at www.york.gov.uk/libraries or ask at the helpdesk in the library. Music books are now with other non-fiction subjects in the lending library, and music reference books are now in the Reference Library.
