PHILIP Green is a billionaire with the common touch.

While other corporate bosses seem interested only in their pension plans, and regard their workforce as little more than numbers on a spreadsheet, Mr Green has shown genuine concern for his new employees.

The retailer rang the Evening Press to reassure staff at Allders stores in York and Knaresborough that their jobs were safe with him.

It is an impressively caring, down-to-earth approach. And what a contrast with bosses at Kraft, whose lack of consideration for the Terry's workers was so apparent.
