AS a cyclist rides up Lawrence Street towards the city centre and turns right at the bar to go up Foss Islands Road, a car also travelling up Lawrence Street wishing to go straight on up Walmgate will find that it crosses the path of the cyclist as the car goes straight ahead on the right hand side of the bar.
I live near to the bar and saw a near accident due to this problem.
If car drivers at each side of the bar take the lights at amber there will be an accident as the bar itself causes a blind spot.
If a bus pulls in sharply to stop at the bus stop just through the bar, then it may hit a cyclist if the cyclist come through the middle of the bar.
It seems that if we desire "thrills and spills" we no longer need to visit Alton Towers. Instead, we can just risk life and limb as we negotiate Walmgate Bar.
