A GOAL ten minutes from the end with their first shot on target gave second-placed Huntington Rovers a 1-1 draw away to third-placed Malton Bacon Factory in an enthralling Leeper Hare York and District League premier division match.

The Malton side took the lead on 28 minutes from a Phil Marwood 25-yard free kick.

The visitors equalised on 80 minutes with their first shot on target, a sweet left-foot volley from Iain Dunne following a build-up involving Paul Fawcett and Paul Downes.

League leaders Dringhouses are now eight points clear at the top after their 3-1 win at Bishopthorpe.

John Lake twice put Dringhouses in front. The first goal was cancelled out by Greg Fitzmaurice. Mark Woodward clinched it for Dringhouses when he scored for the 13th consecutive game.

Copmanthorpe moved off the bottom rung in the league table thanks to an impressive 2-1 home win over fourth-placed Thorpe United.

The visitors took the lead in the first half from a Dean Woods penalty. Copmanthorpe equalised on 62 minutes when Grahame Butcher headed home from a perfectly executed corner by Terry Hibbett.

Shortly afterwards Copmanthorpe hit the post as they took control of the game and they had two clear chances to seal the win before Mark Bellah hit the winner on 78 minutes.

Kartiers, without a goal in their last three games, had to wait until just before the interval before breaking their duck when Simon Winstanley cancelled out an earlier Pocklington penalty from Andy Anderson.

Kartiers gained their first win in five games with second half goals from Dale Huntington and Glen Littlewood.

Another side finding goals hard to come are Haxby United, who went down 4-0 at home to Dunnington and have now failed to find the net in any of their last four home games.

Chris Burgess and Andy Rose, Dunnington's two leading scorers, each netted twice.

Wigginton Grasshoppers recorded their first win in seven league games by beating T & L Selby 1-0. The goal was created by Simon Fisher, who picked up a loose ball in his own half and surged forward before crossing to Ben Coates, who finished the move with a diving header.

It crowned a special day for the Coates family as it was the first senior game that all three Coates brothers - Jack, Tom and Ben - had all started a game for Wigginton.
