I WAS delighted to hear English Heritage is considering the proposals to make Clifford's Tower a more interesting and rewarding place to visit. (February 2). The tower is second in importance only to the Minster as a landmark and in the history of the city.
English Heritage has an excellent guide to the tower with a photograph on the cover of the gardens and the trees in the foreground. Imagine a huge Ferris Wheel dominating this scene and damaging the greenery.
York is not Birmingham, a city I know well and which in recent years has acquired a large array of very ugly modern buildings. It is absurd to make the comparison.
