VENUES upstream of York dominated the angling scene at the weekend.
Saturday's Millbridge Fisheries event and the Hirst Tackle contest on Sunday were held on the Ouse between Hunters Lodge and Linton.
The Ouse was back to normal level for Saturday's fourth round event, which was dominated by small fish.
With bream missing again Pete Barron headed the frame with 9lb 1oz of perch, roach and chublets at peg 228. Barron's fish ran to eight ounces and fell to pole-fished maggot and chopped worm in 23 feet of water.
Second place was claimed by Jez Keech from 283 on the Linton length where slider-fished maggot brought forty roach for 8lb 14oz
Just an ounce behind in third was John Illingworth with a mixed net of 8lb 13oz taken on pole and maggot from 227 next to the winner.
Others: Paul Bennett (Waterline Wibsey) 7-12-0, Trevor Hewitt (Hirst Tackle) and Noel Speight (Leeds) both 5-14-0.
The end peg at Linton on Ouse came up trumps on Sunday for Hirst Tackle proprietor Nigel Hirst, who won his own match with an unexpected all-perch net of 14-13-0.
Fishing a small open-ended feeder in mid-river he took around 60 perch on chopped worm.
Second place went to Colin Hardy (Waterline Wibsey), who was on the previous day's winning peg 228. He alternated pole and stick with maggot for an all-roach bag of 9-0-0.
Others: Ricky Gaunt (L and B Scaffolding) 8-2-0, Bob Foster (Waterline Wibsey) 8-0-0, Ian Walker (Boston Spa) 7-7-0, and Trevor Hewitt (Hirst Tackle) 7-5-0.
