GOALKEEPER Peter Lawrie was the shoot-out hero as Robert Wilkinson Primary School, Strensall, won the North Yorkshire English Schools' FA six-a-side Championship in a dramatic final at Woodthorpe Primary School.
The final against Ralph Butterfield School, Haxby was 0-0 at the end of extra time and so went to a penalty shoot-out, which the Robert Wilkinson lads won 4-3 to take the trophy.
Lawrie not only saved three penalties but scored himself to prove the key player.
"It was a great result," said Robert Wilkinson School team manager Adam Cooper. "The competition has shown just how strong York football is.
"The team played attacking, attractive football without conceding a goal. They will be very happy with the title of North Yorkshire champions."
Team captain Calum Ward said: "We really deserved this victory. There were some great saves from Peter and our strikers looked really skilful.
"We're looking forward to the North of England competition," he added.
To reach the final Robert Wilkinson School won Group 'B', beating teams from Northstead (Scarborough), Pannal (Harrogate) and Carlton (Selby).
Ralph Butterfield won Group 'A', beating Woodthorpe 1-0 to top the table and go through to the final.
