YORK City goalkeeper Chris Porter was January's Preston and Duckworth Jewellers and Evening Press Player of the Month.
Porter, only recalled to the team for the last match of 2004, has been in brilliant form since the start of the year and has finished ahead of centre-backs Paul Groves and Jon Maloney, who were his nearest rivals for last month's award.
The 25-year-old stopper follows this season's other winners Andy Bishop (August), Gary Pearson (September), David Stockdale (October), Dave Merris (November) and Kevin Donovan (December) and will be presented with a Tissot watch and a framed Evening Press photograph by City supporter Roy Anderson during half-time of tomorrow's home match with Aldershot.
Roy, who has followed City for 71 years, will also receive a Tissot watch from Preston and Duckworth, having been selected from our readers who have voted for their man of the match in Minstermen games this season.
To be in with a chance of presenting this month's award and winning a watch, don't forget to e-mail your top man in any of City's games throughout February to dave.flett@ycp.co.uk or you can drop in your selection at our 76-86 Walmgate offices.
In-form striker Andy Bishop has moved up to second in our Player of the Year standings after his two-goal blast in last weekend's 3-0 win at Leigh RMI.
Bishop was our man of the match with Maloney (two) and Groves (one) also picking up points.
Veteran Groves polled the most votes from our readers and picked up an extra two points in the Player of the Month contest.
Current Evening Press Player of the Year standings: Merris 20 points, Bishop 17, Stockdale 16, Dunning 15, Groves 12, Donovan 11, Porter 11, Paul D Robinson 11, Pearson 10, Brass 8, Davies 7, Maloney 7, McGurk 7, Paul Robinson 7, Stewart 6, Yalcin 6, Grant 4, Davis 3, Nogan 3, Law 2, Arthur 1, Crichton 1, Staley 1.
