Short and sweet is the best way to sum up this debut solo offering from Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff, which squeezes 11 tracks into less than 30 minutes.
The album began life as SFA demos and it shows - the band's trademark quirky sound is clearly evident with the odd bleep, trumpet solo and harmonica, but otherwise Gruff keeps things simple with just rhythms and Beach Boy-style melodic vocal layers. The lyrics are all in Welsh, but don't be put off - every track is insanely catchy. Even non-Welsh speakers will be singing along to poppy Epynt, Y Gwybodusion and Ni Yw Y Byd, or feeling teary-eyed at the sound of angelic nostalgia-themed ballad Ambell Waith. Ardderchog! (Excellent)
