COUNCILLOR Galloway predictably accuses the Evening Press of being irresponsible for informing its readers that the CCTV system was in a deplorable state (January 26). He also quoted several statistics to show how the system had helped reduce crime in the city.
What he did not mention were the recent serious assaults that were not spotted because of faulty cameras, so I wish to level the same accusation of irresponsibility at this council for allowing this state of affairs to continue. If it were not for the Press, this situation could have continued indefinitely - so please don't shoot the messenger.
Coun Galloway says: "It is difficult to think of an action which would reduce our confidence in the judgement of the Evening Press editor more than this incident".
Let me assure you, Mr Galloway, that it is not difficult to think of incidents which reduce our confidence in you.
