PLANS to expand a village airfield by building six large hangars have been resubmitted to council chiefs in York.

Elvington Park Ltd is again asking council chiefs to sanction its hangar application so it can provide an air taxi service on the village airfield.

But parish council chiefs have indicated they will continue to oppose the scheme, which, if approved, would allow business people to fly into Elvington from domestic and foreign airports and have access to businesses in York.

In December, Elvington Park Ltd withdrew the scheme.

City of York Council planning officers had already recommended its refusal because the company had not provided the authority with sufficient information on the plans.

Now the company has revived its application, and officers are expected to consider the plans in the coming weeks before councillors have the final say.

Chris Hudson, of Elvington Park Ltd, said the application had not been altered from those which came before the council last year.

He said: "The application is still for six hangars. It is a resubmission and is exactly the same. The previous scheme was not refused, we withdrew it to give us more time to get information together."

Ian Bailey, chairman of Elvington Parish Council, said the view of councillors and villagers would probably be the same as when the application was last submitted.

"This is a major development on green belt land," he said. "The application is not supported by any information about how the airfield would be used.

"We don't want to write a blank cheque on useage. We want to know how it will benefit the community here and, without that information, we would be simply writing a blank cheque and we can't do that on green belt land."

Mr Bailey said councillors had not yet discussed the new application, but he said: "It would be my hope that the position of the parish council would remain unchanged."
