ASCOT Racecourse has unveiled the order of running for Royal Ascot at York.

The five-day Knavesmire spectatcular starts on Tuesday, June 14, with the Coventry Stakes at 2.30pm.

There will be six races each day with 30 of the 36 races screened live by the BBC - the remainder, all at the end of the daily programme, will be covered by At The Races.

The meeting has been switched to York for the first time because of building work at Ascot.

The promotion of the Albany Stakes to Group Three status means there will be 17 Group Races during the royal week on Knavesmire.

There are a couple of changes to the running order from last year. The Windsor Castle Stakes (formerly Tuesday) and the Chesham Stakes (formerly Saturday) swap places, as do the Buckingham Palace Stakes (formerly Friday) and the King George V Stakes (formerly Thursday).

There will be changes to field sizes and distances at York as part of safety limits with some races having a third less runners than normal.

The maximum field for the six furlongs of the Wokingham Stakes has been reduced from 30 at Ascot to 20 at York. Another of the season's big Flat betting handicaps, the Royal Hunt Cup, will have no more than 23 runners compared with the usual 32

The Hunt Cup, and other races over the equivalent distance, like the St James's Palace Stakes, will also be run over a shorter course than usual, since the left-handed Knavesmire track cannot accommodate a one-mile start. Their official distance will be seven furlongs 205 yards.

Five furlong races will have a maximum 20 runners instead of 28 and seven furlong contests 23 instead of the usual 23.

The Gold Cup and the Ascot Stakes will start at the five furlong marker and the Queen Alexandra Stakes will start at the seven furlong marker.

The one increased safety limit is for Royal Ascot's mile and a quarter races which will be run over a distance of 88 yards farther and have a maximum of 20 runners, two more than normal at Royal Ascot. The Prince of Wales's Stakes would come under that category.

The rail on the home bend will be moved out after racing on Thursday so it was preferable to run all seven furlong races before then.

The two-mile Queen's Vase will be run on the traditional horseshoe course and all races over that distance will be run round the new round course that is being developed on Knavesmire.
