YORK City trialist Giovanni Carchedi showed a glimpse of what he is capable of after scoring the winner in last night's 1-0 reserve match at home to Darlington.
The former Grimsby Town striker started along with former Burnley man Paul Weller, who is at KitKat Crescent for a second trial.
Caretaker manager Viv Busby said: "We took him off because it was only his second game in a year so he was feeling it a bit but he scored a good goal and both trialists did reasonably well.
"Hopefully we will see them in another game which will give us a chance to see what they can really do, and we will take it from there."
Club skipper Steve Davis was impressive in his first full 90 minutes since his hip injury but is unlikely to feature in the first team at Leigh RMI on Saturday.
