YORKSHIRE Ladies remain on course to reach the final of the Atherley Trophy as they brushed aside Cumbria 133-87 on aggregate in the quarter-final.

The game at Newcastle saw wins for all but one of the Yorkshire rinks with only Judy Frosdick's side going down 20-12.

The biggest margin came from York's Helen Walker whose team won all but four ends to trounce their opponents 36-4.

Carol Instone's rink lost the last three ends but by then it was too late for the Cumbrians as the White Rose ladies led 25-8, the final score being 25-11.

Linda Harrison's team found themselves 12-9 down after 15 ends but then won four on the trot and moved to a 20-15 victory.

Betty Alderson's team were level at 16-16 with two ends to go before scoring a two then only dropped a single to win narrowly 18-7.

Melanie Brooke held her nerve as her rink looked comfortable, leading 21-16 with four ends to play but lost the next three to hold a one shot advantage going into the last end where she managed to pull off a single to win 22-20.

Yorkshire play Lincolnshire in the semi-final.

York's women got a surprisingly easy passage into the last 16 of the Yetton Trophy after defeating Blackpool Newton Hall 90-47.

The seasiders conceded their rinks at Thanet Road on the 17th and 19th ends when they realised all was lost.

Helen Walker's rink got off to a flier at home by winning all but one of the first eight ends to lead 19-1.

They were still in a commanding position when their opponents threw in the towel on the 17th end with the score standing at 24-8.

Newton Hall were demoralised thanks to the thrashing Carol Instone's rink gave them at Blackpool, winning impressively 25-10.

Melanie Brooke's team were in the only close game of the match, which saw them leading 11-10 after ten ends before the home side won four successive ends to lead 18-11 with seven ends to play but Brooke's side showed determination to come back and claim the game 20-19.

York now play Darlington on February 3, starting at 12.30pm.

There was huge disappointment for York in the Egham Trophy zone final against Blackpool Newton Hall as they won three rinks but lost the game on aggregate 75-71.

After 15 ends the aggregate stood at 56-50 in York's favour and even after 18 ends they were still ahead 64-61.

But Phil Emerson's team, who had come from 10-0 down after eight ends to 13-12 down after 15, couldn't score again and went down 29-12.

Paul Mooring's team won 23-14, David Stroughair's 20-18 and away, Gordon Smith's four won 16-14 after being 14-12 behind.
