BEING marketed as the new Dido may be damning with faint praise, but the part-Chinese, part-Scottish singer/songwriter KT Tunstall is turning more than a few heads.
With an interesting lineage, strong personality and a good voice, the prospects look good. A shame then, even with the last-minute addition of the show-stopping single Black Horse And The Cherry Tree, that this debut is at best mediocre. The stripped-down arrangements simply hold no interest. Although Other Side Of The World is promising, the rest of her "kitchen-table songs" don't hold up to closer examination. While she will improve, for now this performer is best seen in the flesh.
