The newly-formed New Earswick Girls U15s battled bravely before losing 12-8 at Halifax Vandals.

The All Blacks, the first junior girls' RL side in York, had a try disallowed with the scores at 8-8 and fell to a sucker punch winner with the last play.

It was an impressive display with fine performances in particular from Hayley Fairclough, Emily Platt, Vicky Smith, Sally Young, Kim Barron, Chelsea Barron, Michaela Stone and Sarha Kaloczi, with Barron and Young getting the tries.

The All Blacks are looking for players from U12 to U15 for their girls' side. They train on Tuesdays 6pm at New Earswick rugby club and Thursdays 6pm at Huntington School's all weather training ground. If interested, contact Mark on 01904 789886 or 07931762047.

Danny Allen scored four tries as Heworth U16s beat Headingley 32-4.

Ben Potter orchestrated things as first-half touchdowns came from Allen (2), Sam Blaney and, with a length of the field try, Chris Peace, Ben Potter adding two goals. Headingley hit back but Heworth, despite having a man sin-binned, never looked like losing, with Allan grabbing another brace and Blaney also crossing again. Haller Knowles also played well.

Undefeated New Earswick U12s more than bridged a two-division gap as they crushed Cas Panthers. Half-backs Adam Johnson and man of the match Tom Barron excelled, while Kieran O'Malley was most improved. Joe Dey, Louis Pool and Liam Dawson scored tries, with Dean Layton goaling two.
