IT is heartening to see so many letters tackling the issue of the South Bank fireworks.
As your readers and your leader column (January 18) suggest, the only solution is for the council to put a strict limit on decibel levels.
But it's all very well for us to write letters and sign petitions. Will Coun Orrell now tell us via this letters page whether or not the council will listen to us and introduce a noise restriction and enforce it?
A hint to the answer is given in the Press where organisers of the Guy Fawkes 400th anniversary events imply that this year's fireworks will be even more souped-up then ever (January 20). If the council is so fond of earth-shattering bangs and thumps, why doesn't it forget about fireworks and invest in a grenade launcher?
