RAT FANS are urgently needed to adopt 30 homeless rodents.
Members of a York rat pack are looking for a new home after being abandoned by their previous owner.
Now animal rescue workers are desperately seeking volunteers with warm hearts and big cages to take them in.
The sad tale began when a woman brought 30 rats to the RSPCA Animal Home in York, on Wednesday, and handed them over to staff.
Elaine Murdoch, manager of the home, said the rodents were fit and healthy, and would make delightful pets for all the family.
She said: "Rats really are intelligent, social little things. They get a very rough deal in life, a lot of bad press, and people really should not be put off by their usual image.
"A friend of mine has a lovely pet rat - it's so clever, and it sits on her shoulder when she watches TV.
"These pour little souls come in all ages, shapes, sizes and colours. They are very friendly, and all look to be in good health - they just need warm homes to take them in."
The rats need large cages, and should be taken out and exercised regularly. Rats enjoy companionship, and should ideally live in pairs.
If you can help, phone the RSPCA home, in Landing Lane, on 01904 654949.
