SEEMINGLY unbeatable York City Schools Under-11 footballers added Leeds to their list of conquests as they booked a place in the semi-final of the Green'Un Cup.
York were quick out of the traps and put Leeds under pressure which paid off when Charlie Clamp made a great run down the right and crossed for Jacob Gore to fire a sweet volley into the top of the net to make it 1-0.
Leeds pulled themselves back into the game but man-of-the-match Conor Qualter marshalled the defence well and York keeper George Wilson kept out a goal-bound free-kick.
The second half started as the first but York struggled to extend their lead despite Sam Fowler and Tom Kite both going close.
Hard-working York, including debutant Aaron Hudson, dug deep and sent Clamp through to shoot past the keeper and make it 2-0 to secure a second semi-final of the season for the top-of-the-league team with the Yorkshire Cup quarter-finals coming up this week at Bradford.
York U11s: George Wilson, George Catling, Tom Kite, Tim Patton, Alex Dale, Luke Quantock, Charlie Clamp, Sam Byram, Connor Qualter, Jacob McCormick, Aaron Hudson, Sam Fowler, Jacob Gore, Jamie Willstrop, Alex Needham. Meet at A64 McDonalds at 9am.
Dean Lisles bagged two goals as York U13s schoolboys won 4-0 at Grimsby.
Lisles's early opener settled York down into playing good attacking football, though the hosts held them to 1-0 at the break. Grimsby then came out and put York under pressure but the visitors, for whom Mathew Clay and Adam Scorefield put in mature displays at full-back, withstood the early onslaught and bagged a second-half treble at the other end through George Riley, man of the match Danny Montgommery and Lisles.
This week the U13s entertain Calderdale at the Railway Institute.
York U13s squad (v Calderdale): Joe Catlin, Joel Dixon, Ryan O'Reilly, Alex Fowler, Adam Scorefield, George Riley, Dean Lisles, Cathial Tosh, Ryan Qualter, Joe Dale, Adam Brook, Mathew Clay, Nick Thompson, Michael Byram, Marco Shepherd, Danny Montgommery. All players meet 9.30am. Bring £2 match fees. Confirm availability by ringing Brendan or Paul.
York U12s schoolboys' Cup quarter-final at Derby was cancelled last week and is now scheduled for Saturday, January 29 when the teams will play a double-header for league points as well. There is no game this weekend.
Inter-school football matches should now be back in full swing with the lightening evenings making it possible to play midweek fixtures within the next few weeks.
All results must be sent in immediately after the game.
