I WRITE on behalf of my father, Mike Key, the so-called animal hater (Letters, January 12).

Far from disliking animals, pets have always been an integral and much-loved part of our family. My dad hasn't eaten a kipper since his sausage dog died. Kippers were the dog's favourite treat, as they were for dad. That is more than a year ago. I could regale you with many stories of my father's compassion, but that's all going to be a waste of time unless Mr Key stops confusing the issues. I fail to see how a love of cats translates into a belief that they should be allowed to roam across, deface and destroy other people's property.

My father's love for animals is not combined with disrespect for his fellow humans.

Catherine Key,

Long Lane,

Finchley,

London.
