I couldn't get this curious CD out my car player all week - it got stuck inside. It was probably the weighty tracks that jammed the mechanism.
Fans have labelled this stuff cinematic and evocative, saying it would be ideal for soundtracks to dreamy films made by Tim Burton. Probably.
But his films are rubbish. This album doesn't even come with pictures to take your mind off the tedium. Singer Matt Kelly does have an astonishing voice, Jeff Buckley comparisons abound, and he plays to his strengths with panache.
Wonderful, Wonderful brings to mind My Bloody Valentine, without the feedback and mumbling, and The End is an attention-grabbing opener. This is one for the Walkman on a hot air balloon trip across the Andes, not for a Ford Fiesta on a cross-town dawdle.
