THE delays to the proposed A59 Park and Ride can only be described as a farce.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that, having received our third consultation document, the Lib Dems will continue to consult until they get the result which suits them.

From the wording in their latest consultation document, it is clear they are trying their best to influence the result to be sites two or three.

These preferred sites would mean City of York Council having to buy land - at a time when it is having to make cuts to vital services because of shortfalls in budgets. Site 1 is also that recommended by City of York planners - the professionals.

Why, then, do the Lib Dems in York only seek to pursue their own preferences and not those of the citizens of York?

We would suggest that this issue, and those of recent public concern - such as the Barbican sell-off and increased parking charges - only go to compound the argument that Lib Dem councillors are no longer true representatives of the people of York.

Have they forgotten they are merely caretakers of services and their decisions should ultimately be guided by public opinion and that of paid professionals?
