Paul D Robinson used his inimitable cheek to earn York City Reserves a much-deserved win over Lincoln City Reserves last night.
A 54th-minute penalty saw the striker confidently send Lincoln 'keeper Simon Rayner the wrong way with a pause in his run up before delicately floating the ball into the vacant net a l Dwight Yorke.
It was enough for the victory and added a suitable gloss to a match characterised by good attacking play with slick moves and plenty of shots.
Lee Nogan and Robinson were on the same wavelength all night with several deft passes scything open the Lincoln defence, including the one that led to Robinson being roughly clattered to the ground for the penalty.
Lev Yalcin dominated the midfield with help from Bryan Stewart and Adam Arthur on the wings and was not afraid of shooting despite struggling to get many on target.
The other big plus for City was the late appearance of captain Steve Davis in the heart of the defence after a four month lay-off with a hip injury.
He moved well in his 17-minute spell and added a confident voice to the field alongside skipper Sean Davies. But he showed his rustiness with an error with less than ten minutes to go which was just cleared.
Lincoln piled on the pressure to get an equaliser but City soaked it up well. Substitute Andy Toyne came the closest to upsetting the City fans in the 80th minute but Graeme Law effected a timely goal-line clearance.
