WILLIAM Dixon Smith (Letters, January 3) is mistaken about Robin Cook's stance on electoral reform, which has been consistent both during Labour's opposition days and since the party gained power; it is a consistency which is testament to the man's integrity.
He champions proportional representation as president of the cross-party Make Votes Count electoral reform group, which puts party-political differences aside to campaign for a fairer system of government than that which "first-past-the-post" offers.
Mr Smith and other readers can find out about membership of this electoral reform group by telephone on: 0207 928 2076, or by accessing the website www.makevotescount.org.uk
