REMOVAL of some street signs in and around the York city centre is to take place because they are cluttering streets and spoiling some areas.
Why not remove all signs because most motorists and cyclists forget, or don't understand, them anyway? They drive in any direction, even though it clearly shows a one-way system, or drive through no entry signs.
As for the pedestrian zone, that doesn't exist any more. It seems everyone has become disabled.
Instead of removing signs, bigger ones should be put up. At every street exit a warning should be given about penalty points and heavy fines for all those who choose to ignore restrictions. Signs are there for a reason and could save lives if they were obeyed.
