THERE have been letters in the Evening Press criticising Viv Busby and Chris Brass concerning their management of York City - unfairly in my opinion.

The shocking financial position they had inherited from the disgraceful actions of Bootham Crescent Holdings.

So I was pleased to see that Deputy Sports Editor Tony Kelly underlined the problems (Evening Press, January 4) with his statement "it must never be forgotten that BCH are the true villains of the piece." Absolutely spot on.

How Messrs Craig, Webb and Swallow can take so much money from the club - a reported £1.6m in total - when Busby can't even afford to sign a player on loan unless the other club pays his wages is beyond me.

Wouldn't it be a good thing if they followed the fine example of former director John Quickfall and gave the money back to the club, where it belongs, despite what all the legal beagles might say?

Meantime I urge all true City supporters to read the chapter on York City (Pages 210-234) in David Conn's recently published wonderful new book "The Beautiful Game? - Searching for the Soul of Football."

Your reviewer Charles Hutchinson invited readers to study the chapter on the Hillsborough Disaster and weep. I did and I did. He could equally have said study the chapter on York City (Together we make a home) and weep. I did.
