Businesses across Yorkshire have made December a record-breaking month for Bartercard York.

The company has broken through the six-figure barrier for its monthly transactions for the first time in its history - more than tripling the figure for the same period last year.

Bartercard York, whose head office is in Heworth Road, York, offers a New Age method of bartering with "trade pounds" available to subscribing businesses and organisations in Yorkshire, and linking with Bartercard holders throughout Britain and Europe.

Chris Bradley, brokerage director for Bartercard York, said: "2004 has been a great year for Bartercard York and its members.

"When we started 18 months ago there were just two Yorkshire businesses involved in the Bartercard network and now we are well on the way to the 150th business joining the network as an increasing number of companies appreciate the benefits of using their surplus stock and spare capacity to generate new businesses, boost profitability and improve cash flow.

"Last December, our members traded less than £30,000-worth of business during the month, but this December we achieved £105,000-worth of trade - a threefold increase year-on-year, and one which looks set to continue growing during 2005.

"By using our trade co-ordinators across the country we are able to provide Yorkshire-based businesses of all sizes and descriptions with the opportunity to attract new customers without it costing them cash from their income stream - a system that any Yorkshireman would find attractive!

"We are intending to continue growing throughout 2005 as more members join our network and realise the benefits of being involved with Bartercard."

Local companies involved in Bartercard include: The Tasting Room restaurant in Little Swinegate, York, The Hedley House Hotel in Bootham, York, Yorkshire Distribution at Barton Hill, The Max Design & Print at Clifton Moor, York, and BI Office Supplies in Malton.
