RADICAL plans to beat race-day congestion at all future race meetings in York will be trialled next month, council chiefs have agreed.
City of York Council transport chiefs said the prospect of Royal Ascot at York next year had provided the catalyst for reviewing route arrangements which had been largely unchang-ed for the past 60 years.
The council's ruling executive has agreed that the new arrangements should be tried for the first time at next month's Ebor meeting.
They include controls on vehicle movements in and out of certain residential areas and improved junction controls to increase traffic flows.
Tadcaster Road will be closed to all out-of-city traffic, from 11am to 2pm, from the Tesco roundabout, there will be no through routes in along Knavesmire Road and Campleshon Road for the whole of each race day and access to South Bank will be by permit only.
