I HAVE read with interest your two reports on the proposed T Mobile telecommunications mast to be erected at Hospital Fields Road, Fulford.
I live on North Lane, Huntington. We have just been notified of a proposal by T Mobile to erect a 14.7 metre telecommunications pole with three antenna on land opposite my house in the centre of our village and on the edge of our local sports field.
Just half a mile further up North Lane is open land that I believe has been designated for industrial purposes.
I cannot understand why the pole could not be erected there rather than spoil the appearance of our village and possibly be a health hazard to the residents.
It seems that these companies can ride roughshod over any local community and erect their equipment wherever they wish.
We have lodged a formal complaint with City of York Council and have received a reply saying: "The council has a limited period of 56 days within which to make a decision.
"If a decision is not made within this time the operator can erect the equipment without any further consent."
I cannot understand why these companies seem to have a different set of rules so far as planning is concerned than the rest of us.
We certainly don't hold out much hope of winning our battle.
Mrs C Armstrong,
North Lane,
Huntington,
York.
