KERRY Woods' brilliant strike gave Acomb Ladies I a 1-0 victory at Batley in Yorkshire League division two.
The Tangerines dominated possession from the start thanks to the excellent midfield work of Wendy Watson, Rachel Linfoot, player of the match Jo Brooke and Sally Harrison.
It took little time at all for Acomb to convert this constant pressure in to an attacking short corner, which was converted by Wood with a fierce shot.
Acomb continued to play well in the second half with Ann Pye and Kerry Rafton making attacking runs. The defence was in such control that Acomb goalkeeper Gemma Hall had virtually nothing to do.
Acomb Ladies II's game against Tadcaster Magnets was cancelled as Tad could not raise a team.
Acomb Mens I were thwarted when their pitch was declared unplayable by the Oaklands authorities and had to postpone their encounter against Leeds University.
Acomb Men II travelled across the city and opened the scoring with a Paul Yoward penalty against City of York VII.
That was as good as it got for Acomb as York powered home 6-1 with goals from James Still (3), Steve Archer, Alastair Blacklee and Neil Reader.
Nestl Rowntree gave a good team performance to beat Stokesley 2-1 in the Costcutter Ladies Hockey League.
Julie Moore's passing was a feature of play before Margi Charlson slotted home Nestle's opener. Stokesley quickly equalised but Jane Markland netted the winner for the York-based side.
